NEW YORK TIMES SPELLING BEE
Spelling Bee is one of the puzzle games you can play on the New York Times Crossword app. Being a frequent user of the app, I felt it was lacking in personality. Thus, I was intrigued to add motion to their type and playful icons.

Creating Motion

LOADING SCREEN
Each animation represents a game within the New York Times Games collection.

SPELLING BEE LANDING SCREEN
The text fades and animates upwards while the “Spelling Bee” animates in a jumping interaction. After you tap the play button, the bee jumps transitioning you into the game.

CELEBRATION ANIMATION
After you get a word, a bee and flower animates from the left congratulating you! The more/longer words you get, additional bees and flowers appear. The bee at the progress bar also moves and leaves a flower for each word you get.
